ORGANIC GARDENS

garden_graphic_10The US Department of Agriculture reports that Native Americans suffer food insecurity and hunger at twice the rate of the general population.

Across the country, Native American families are struggling to feed themselves because of poverty and geographic isolation.

Fresh fruit and vegetables are difficult to access for many American Indians.

Diabetes and other health problems are rampant on Indian Reservations across the US.

Running Strong tries to address the problems created lack of access to healthy food through:
• organic community gardens
• family gardens
• communal greenhouse programs.

Children help out in the greenhouses on Pine Ridge Reservation.
