There is a shortage of housing on Indian reservations across the US. In 2003, it was estimated that approximately 90,000 Native American families are homeless or under-housed. Overcrowding is a constant problem and it is not uncommon to find a family of ten or more living in a small trailer.
Running Strong supports many programs to help the situation. Our programs include building homes suitable to life on the Reservation, helping families finance a home of their own, education programs, and assistance with major home repairs.
Through our programs, Running Strong hopes to foster self-sufficiency, a sense of pride, and suitable housing for American Indian children.
