Team Running Strong will help you complete a marathon and make a difference in the lives of American Indians in need.

Running Strong is about the daily miracles in Indian country. Despite the tremendous odds,
our Indian-led programs are making a brighter future for some of the most forgotten and poverty-stricken parts of our country, one water well, one youth center, one family at a time.

ImageIn 2004, Marine Corps Marathon™ chose our National Spokesperson, Olympic Gold Medalist
Billy Mills (Oglala Lakota), as the official starter and Team Running Strong was born.

Billy Mills's success exemplifies Running Strong. Orphaned at the age of 12, struggling against poverty and prejudice, he became the only American to ever win the 10,000m Olympic Gold Medal. He also served as a captain in the Marine Corps.

From across many different states and tribes, runners and walkers come together to make a better future. Be a part of this prestigious team that welcomes both elite and novice runners.

"THE GREAT THING ABOUT RUNNING FOR A CHARITY LIKE RUNNING STRONG FOR AMERICAN INDIAN YOUTH IS THAT I WAS GREETED [AT THE FINISHLINE] WITH OPEN ARMS AND A BIG SMILE FROM BILLY MILLS.  HOW EXCITING IS THAT?  --Kelly Concho Hayes, Team Running Strong 2007
