OKLAHOMA

A Euchee elder teaches students about their Native language.According to the National Indian Education Association, of the 500 Native languages that existed prior to European contact, only 100 remain and only 20 are still spoken by young people.

Many linguists believe that at least half of the remaining languages will be lost in the next century.

In a race against time, Running Strong is working with schools, tribes, and communities to support the continuation of native languages, traditions and customs.

Programs we support in Oklahoma:
E.U.C.H.E.E. Language Preservation Project
Billy Mills Youth Motivation
Holiday Parties
Operation Turkey Dinner
Food Pantries
