  • Q: What is Team Running Strong?

A: Team Running Strong is a marathon team that supports the charity Running Strong for American Indian Youth®.

In 2004, the Marine Corps Marathon™ chose Billy Mills, an Olympic Gold Medalist and Running Strong’s National Spokesperson, as their official starter and Team Running Strong was born.

Each year since, runners and walkers from all over the country have come together to raise funds and awareness about the great need in American Indian communities throughout the US.

Go to Team Running Strong History to see photos from past years, read testimonals from team members, and more.

Q: What is the difference between Team Running Strong in the Marine Corps Marathon™ and Team Running Strong USA?

    A
: Team Running Strong in the Marine Corps Marathon™ is Running Strong’s officially organized charity team.

By participating, Team members can take advantage of a host of activities that are organized by Running Strong staff during race weekend.

    These activities include:
    • a Team Honoring Ceremony with family and friends the day before the race
    • a race day cheering section
    • a Running Strong finish line tent

We understand that not everyone can join us in October for the Marine Corps Marathon, but that lots of people would still like to support Running Strong's cause by participating in runs across the country.

Team Running Strong USA gives you the chance to do just that!

Because we have limited resources, we cannot organize race weekend events for all of our Team Running Strong USA members, but we can give you access to many great Team Running Strong perks.

Plus, you get share in the amazing camaraderie that comes from going the distance for American Indian children in need!

Q: How much do I have to fundraise for Team Running Strong? What will the money be used for?

A: All charity partners in the Marine Corps Marathon have a fundraising commitment.  Team Running Strong in the Marine Corps Marathon™ has one of the lowest.   We ask each Team Running Strong member to raise $722 (722 was Billy Mills' Olympic jersey number).

DON'T WORRY THOUGH.

While fundraising commitments can be daunting at times, the Running Strong staff will provide you with all the support you need-from "fun"raising ideas and tips to a personalized web page that will accept donations.

You’ll get perks and special gifts as you reach milestones in your fundraising.

Team Running Strong USA does not have a fundraising commitment.

100% of the proceeds from fundraising go into our Indian-led programs across the US.

Make every step count and help us:
• Drill water wells for families living without water on Pine Ridge
• Support youth opportunity on Cheyenne River
• Plant children’s gardens on Crow
• Save the Euchee language in Oklahoma
• And so much more!
