Running Strong's founder Eugene Krizek at our first water well drilled on the Pine Ridge Reservation. When Running Strong began working on Pine Ridge Indian Reservation in South Dakota, Tribal President Joe American Horse identified water as the greatest need on the Pine Ridge Indian Reservation.
Today, many Oglala Lakota families live without running water in relative isolation – forcing them to haul water for miles, using whatever containers they can find. Our program for drilling water wells has been a mainstay of Running Strong's assistance to the Oglala Lakota people since 1986.
