After a rocky start, Eva is a star student thanks to the encouragement she receives at the Center Pole.
Several years ago, Eva came to the Center Pole for the first time.

As a tiny girl, Eva was dealing with issues that no child should ever have to face.

Eva was born on the Crow Reservation in Montana.  After being abandoned as a baby by her mother, a drug addict, Eva had gone to live with her aunt. 

She was lucky to have found a caring relative to take her in, but her aunt was struggling to support Eva and 7 other children on less than $20,000 a year.

They live in her grandmother’s house without running water. 

At the Center Pole, Eva found a caring and nurturing environment that provided hot nurtitious meals, challenged her to be a good student, and taught her about her Crow culture and values.

Today, Eva volunteers at the Center Pole after school, helping in the garden and working with younger kids in the A Li Mi A Center on art projects and reading activities.

This year she participated in the regional spelling bee. She wants to be a rock star and if she can’t be that, she would like to be a teacher.
